York County Jail Roster

The York County Jail inmate registry is a public resource that allows residents of the state of Maine to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. YorkCourt.us helps find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the York County Corrections Division, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. A search in the registry allows you to check the detention status of a person, find out the charges, and the date of admission. The registry is maintained by the Corrections Division of the York County Sheriff's Office and is regularly updated on the county's website.

Search Current Inmates in York Jail

There are several ways to check if a specific person is in custody at York County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Go to YorkCourt.us to start searching for public information about inmates.
  2. Visit the Corrections page on the York County website — here you will find official information about the jail, which can accommodate up to 396 people and is the second largest in the state.
  3. Use the Maine Department of Corrections inmate search if the person has been transferred to a state facility or is serving a sentence at the state level.

To start a search, you will need the person's full legal name (last name and first name). A booking number speeds up the search but is not mandatory. If the county website presents the registry as a list without a separate search field, use the browser function Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to find the desired last name on the page.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry — this restriction is established by state law.

By Phone

Call the jail directly and inquire about the detention status of a specific person. The operator can confirm the presence of an inmate if you provide the full name.

Personal Visit

You can appear at the jail lobby and contact the information window. The address and contact details of the facility:

Find York Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the jail. This process includes photographing, fingerprinting, and registration in the system. The following is recorded during admission:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges
  • Arresting agency (local police, sheriff, state police, etc.)
  • Basic identification data of the detainee

To find booking records online, start with the registry on the York County Corrections Division website. Current records are usually displayed automatically for persons currently in custody.

If you need information about court cases related to the arrest, refer to the Maine eCourts system — electronic filing and access to court records for York County Superior Court became available on March 30, 2026. For obtaining state-level criminal history records, there is a separate service — criminal history request through the Maine State Police.

Older booking records that no longer appear in the online registry can be requested directly from the sheriff's corrections division — by phone or written request.

Search the York Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The registry supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the person's last name in Latin script. Adding the first name narrows the results, which is useful for common last names. A few practical tips:

  • Check the spelling — one letter mistake can hide the desired record.
  • If the system does not support partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name and review the results manually.
  • Double last names or hyphenated last names are sometimes registered differently — try both spelling options.

Search by Booking Number

This method is the most accurate. The booking number uniquely identifies a specific admission record to the facility. It may be known if you received it from a lawyer, law enforcement agency, or from a previous search.

What to Do If the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the name is spelled correctly — check alternative versions (e.g., Robert instead of Bob).
  2. The person may not yet be entered into the system — there is a time gap between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the registry.
  3. The person may have already been released, and the record has disappeared from the current list.
  4. Call the jail at (207) 324-1113 and clarify the status directly.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in York

The York County Jail registry is not updated instantly. Between the time of arrest, processing at the jail, and the appearance of the record on the website, it can take from a few hours to a day. The same applies to release — the name may remain in the registry for some time after the person is actually released from custody.

It is important to understand several limitations:

  • The registry shows only those who are currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past arrests.
  • Data entry delays occur, especially on weekends and holidays when administrative staff works in limited numbers.
  • After release, transfer to another facility, or transfer to state jurisdiction, the record may disappear from the registry without notice.
  • Technical failures on the county website sometimes temporarily block access to the list.

To check the status of persons transferred to state-level facilities, use the Maine Department of Corrections search system. If you need archival data on past bookings in York County Jail, contact the sheriff's corrections division in writing or by phone — the online registry does not store such records.
